Shed & Farm Building Pads

For shed pads, the useful question is not simply how much soil can be moved. It is what condition the area needs to be in for what happens next.

Control the area for what happens next.
Prepare and maintain appropriate surface levels and drainage should be considered in relation to the surrounding land, water, soil, traffic and the intended next operation.

Start with the required outcome

Define the purpose of the area before grading. The required surface may be level, sloped, crowned, cross-falling or locally corrected. A Dugong grader scraper is a physical land-management tool; GPS/GNSS or laser can provide level guidance, but the plan determines the target.

Assess the area before moving soil

Consider soil type, moisture, topsoil and subsoil, existing drainage, previous earthworks, machinery or animal traffic, compaction risk and the condition of surrounding areas. A local problem should not automatically trigger unnecessary work across land that is already performing correctly.

Where a Dugong can fit

An existing Dugong may suit controlled cutting, carrying, redistribution, trimming or maintenance where tractor-towed equipment is appropriate to the material, access and required finish. It should complement—not automatically replace—bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, compactors or specialised finishing equipment.

Precision and repeatability

Guidance can help an operator relate a small affected area to the larger farm or site plan. This supports the Dugong Soil Management principle of micro-management within macro-control: manage the part while protecting the purpose of the whole.
