Grain Cropping Landforming
Grain landforming should target the terrain or traffic defects that affect the farm's operations. It need not flatten every natural contour.

Plan the surface handover
BeforeUse crop and machinery history to locate repeated wet areas and access problems.
Work stageCompare local correction with wider regrading and protect productive soil during the selected movement.
AfterRe-establish the intended seedbed.
What to verify
Check the corrected surface and its connection to the surrounding catchment.
Field formation precedes the crop-specific seedbed or bed-making operation. Protect productive soil, check the whole water route and coordinate headlands with machinery access. A before-and-after photograph can show shape, but does not establish a crop or irrigation benefit without appropriate observations.
Scope and limits
Do not grade without a clear purpose simply because a machine is available.
Continue the job brief
Include the location, existing condition, intended surface, material, available tractor and proposed dates.
