Topsoil is not manufactured by a scraper
Productive topsoil develops through biological, chemical and physical processes and farm management over time. A scraper can assist the physical management: redistribution, surface shaping, drainage correction and preparation for other management inputs.
Manage zones progressively
Where earthworks expose different material, a farmer may manage an affected zone rather than automatically reconstruct the whole field.
Protect areas already working
Intervention should be purposeful. Sometimes the correct management decision is to leave a productive area alone.
