Irrigation Bay Landforming: Worked Examples
A landforming decision becomes easier to understand when the design case is translated into estimated material movement, operating time and indicative fuel.
Reference area
The worked area is 100 m × 300 m. Earlier landforming examples estimated approximately 300 m³ at 1:5000, 570 m³ at 1:7000, 800 m³ at 1:10000 and 1,000 m³ at 1:15000.
Worked table
| Case | Material | Hours at 10 m³/h | Fuel at 5.5 L/h |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1:5000 | 300 m³ | 30 h | 165 L |
| 1:7000 | 570 m³ | 57 h | 313.5 L |
| 1:10000 | 800 m³ | 80 h | 440 L |
| 1:15000 | 1,000 m³ | 100 h | 550 L |
Use the area objective
The purpose is not to celebrate cubic metres for their own sake. Material movement is a means of controlling the productive area for irrigation, drainage, traffic and the farming operation that follows.
Operating-data qualification
The figures on this page are worked examples based on the stated baseline assumptions, not guaranteed production or fuel-consumption figures. Actual results vary with tractor, soil and material, moisture, loading efficiency, haul distance, grade, traffic, operator, weather and site conditions. Measure the actual job before making a commercial decision.
